Because it's simple and it's UNIX ;o)
Well, ezIX isn't really a Linux distribution; it only uses the Linux kernel (because I think it's the best kernel around for such a system). The approach I took is very simple: there are many modifications (sometimes minor) I always make on a freshly installed system, be it HP-UX, Linux or another UNIX (or even Windows). One of the biggest concerns I've always had with (especially) Linux distributions is the lack of integration and consistency: Linux vendors seem to have completly adopted the PERL motto (There's More Than One Way To Do It) or, even worse, the Windows motto (It's A Good Thing That There's More Than One Way To Do It, Because Most Of The Ways Don't Work). I personaly prefer to have one set of consistent tools instead of half a dozen of badly-integrated hacks.
But again, this is only my opinion and I must confess I'm developing ezIX to serve a very selfish goal: building THE system I like to use.
I don't really know. I drew this fish from a photograph especially to use it as a logo and then scanned it. Maybe it's just because I think it looks great...
oh... by the way, its name is "bubulle".
